Black-hooded Oriole

On a quiet branch,
the sun left a golden flame;
night gave it a hood of black,
and the forest called it a song.

This is an adult Black-hooded Oriole, recognised by its brilliant yellow body, complete black hood, dark wings, crimson eye and coral-red bill. It measures approximately 23–25 cm and inhabits open woodlands, plantations, gardens and cultivated landscapes across tropical South and Southeast Asia. It spends much of its time in the tree canopy, feeding mainly on fruits; particularly figs and insects. Its cup-shaped nest is suspended securely between tree branches.
